Special Olympics in Tippecanoe County, Indiana, could not exist without volunteers. These dedicated folk enable Special Olympics to offer sports training and competition programs to nearly 200 individuals with intellectual disabilities within the county. Due to the time, energy, dedication, and commitment of the many volunteers, Special Olympics has been going strong for several years. Even a few athletes from surrounding counties participate with Tippecanoe County. A variety of opportunities is available from the role of coach, to fund-raiser to timer and scorer.

Volunteers can even participate as an athlete themselves – be a partner on a Unified team!

Volunteers increase integration and socialization opportunities for Special Olympics athletes. The dedication of Special Olympics volunteers provides mainstreaming experiences for athletes with intellectual disabilities.

Interested in volunteering? Bonnie McDougle is our volunteer coordinator. Inquiries can be made through the Tippecanoe County Contacts page. Make a difference in someone’s life – assist the Special Olympic athletes in their “Training for Life.  OR check us out further by attending a monthly Tippecanoe County Management Team meeting – see calendar page – first Wednesday each month at 7:30, Kathryn Weil Center, Lafayette IN.

«» ALPs is always looking for mentors for our athlete leaders, particularly when attending ALPs University – please consider giving an athlete the benefits of your leadership skills, whatever they be!

A Winning Combination of Sports, Sharing and Caring

From skiing to swimming, basketball to track and field, Special Olympics is an opportunity for families to share in the accomplishment of their children… be part of a year-round sports training and competition program that the whole family can enjoy … and share their joy with other families. Several participating families say that Special Olympics has added a new dimension of happiness for their family, improved their child’s self image, and served as a strong network for the family.

Families can choose their level of involvement in the Special Olympics program. Some families provide not only encouragement and love, but may also coach, offer transportation, assist with fundraising, officiate, chaperone, and train other volunteers.

If you are interested in learning more about how you can involve a family member in Special Olympics Tippecanoe County, please contact County Coordinators, Gary & Jan Beeker. Visit our Tippe County Contact page for communication links.
